A Beacon of Hope: The HWPL World Peace Summit

On a day marked by aspirations for global harmony, the 11th HWPL World Peace Summit unfolded in Cheongju, South Korea, gathering an impressive assembly of 800 global leaders. The summit, orchestrated by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), served not only as a platform to showcase the organization's remarkable strides in the realm of peacebuilding but also as a testament to the collective desire for a world united in peace. Among the attendees were dignitaries from governments, international organizations, and civil society, all converging with a shared vision: to accelerate the momentum toward global peace initiatives.

Landmarks in Peacebuilding

The summit's discussions illuminated major advancements in three critical areas: international law, education, and interfaith dialogue. A centerpiece of the event was the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), a proposed legal framework by HWPL that has seen increasing support. Notably, the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO) and 16 additional parliamentary and governmental bodies have adopted resolutions backing the declaration, marking a significant step forward in the codification of peace principles.

Equally compelling is the progress in peace education. Zambia's Ministry of Education has taken commendable steps by incorporating HWPL's peace education program into all schools in its capital, Lusaka, with plans for nationwide expansion. Mongolia follows suit, having integrated the program into its educational system, nurturing the seeds of peace in young minds.

The establishment of the Solidarity of Religions' Peace Committee (SRPC) and the HWPL International Religious Peace Academy further exemplifies HWPL's commitment to fostering peace among diverse faith communities. These initiatives offer a unique platform for interfaith learning and dialogue, recognized in several countries as a pivotal element in the quest for global peace.

Voices for Peace

"Conflict can never be good. Only the achievement of peace is truly good. If we fail to establish a peaceful world in our time, we will burden future generations with conflict. What we leave behind must be a world of peace, not one of conflict. The work before us today is to commit ourselves to acts of goodness," remarked HWPL Chairman Lee Man-hee.

H.E. Ivo Josipović, former president of Croatia, echoed this sentiment in his congratulatory remarks, emphasizing the importance of the year's achievements as a beacon of hope for achieving eternal peace. His words underscore the critical nature of the global community's efforts to ban war and foster a culture of peace.

A Growing Movement

The summit also shone a light on the peaceful Korean reunification efforts and celebrated a significant milestone in HWPL's journey - a global membership surpassing 580,000. This burgeoning community of peace advocates underscores the wide-reaching impact and growing support for HWPL's mission.

As the main event concluded in Cheongju, the torch of peace was passed to 78 cities worldwide, set to host satellite events through October. These gatherings are expected to draw over 15,000 leaders, further discussing peacebuilding strategies and continuing the dialogue sparked in South Korea.
